I received the following letter and photograph here on the J Bar T Ranch today (Jim Taylor -webmaster, sixgunner.com )

 Jim,

Here is the photo of the S&W with the nine bullets in the barrel. . You can keep it if you wish.

During 1962 1 was transferred to the Naval Air Station at Whidbey Island, Washington. I was a Bombardier/ Navigator in the Douglas A3 Skywarrior a twin engine jet bomber that operated from aircraft carriers....I was an instructor B/N in the training squadron......I had a lot of experience with both nuclear and conventional weapons. I retired from the Navy in 1970.

In early 1967, the Commanding Officer of my squadron called me in and told me that I was going to Vietnam on a special assignment.. We were having trouble with 500# bombs not exploding on impact. An EOD Team, (explosive ordnance disposal) was assigned to me and we were going into areas of South Vietnam and digging up the duds to determine why they were not detonating. Great job huh? The VC would dig up these duds, melt out the explosive and use it to make booby traps..

On one of these missions I was involved in a fire fight with some VC.. They did not understand that 1 was a non-combatant and were trying very hard to kill me....

I stepped from behind a tree and there was a VC about 20 meters away standing next to a tree looking away from me. As I raised my M-14, he turned and pointed a handgun in my direction. I put the first round into his chest and I saw the bark fly off the tree behind him. He fell back against the tree but didn't go down so I put two more rounds through his chest. He then slid down the tree into a sitting position, he was dead. He had a really bad day....

I walked over to him and took the pistol out of his hand and saw a bullet sticking out of the barrel. I cleared the remaining rounds in the cylinder. We were still in the fight so I dropped the gun into my pack and went on.

When I got back to the States and home I removed the barrel from the receiver and used my Dremel tool to remove the piece of barrel. I found there were nine bullets in the barrel! The first one is a tracer the rest are ball... All old WW II dated U.S. GI ammo. I took the gun to the Navy photo lab and they took the picture here..

I work the gun shows regularly, and this gun always gets a good reaction... No one believes my story about this gun till they see it..

You may use this photo as you see fit.. It is a real novelty.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

Dad once rebarreled a Model 1917 S&W .45 that had 4 military 230 hardball stuck in the barrel - but they broke the barrel.  The Victory Model is the worse case of bore obstruction I have ever seen.   (Jim Taylor - webmaster)
