TOOLS

It occurred to me when reflecting on the analogies made between firearms and tools that the hammer=pistol idea written by Col. Jeff Cooper and numerous others is flawed.

I submit an alternative for amusement purposes only. Handguns are actually much like "wrenches". Heresy, eh?

Ponder for a moment the variations present in wrench tools and how many choose the "right tool" for fixing a challenge. About as many choices to turn a nut parallel handgun types.

First the single action 1873 is for the hombre who chooses an adjustable wrench to fit all purposes, calibers reflected by length, so large calibers 12 -24" and small bores 4-10".

Air ratchet wrench owners might also be the semi-auto shooters, while torque wrench owners tend toward precision target pistols.

Combination wrenches would be found with double action revolver die-hards and crows-foot wrenches for the more esoteric Webley-Fosberry fanciers.

Ratcheting box end wrenches for those with double action autos like the Glock.

Pipe wrenches reflect the .454 and .475 Linebaugh wrist cruncher idea of exerting unlimited power, not always finesse.

Sockets perhaps for switch caliber aficionados that also prefer the T/C contender concept.

Not a complete study nor any slam against gun enthusiasts, it just some food for thought as we might understand our weapon preference by looking into our mechanics tool box.
